MALIBU, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Lilla Frederick of the women's volleyball team was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Waves in back-to-back shut-out wins versus Gonzaga and Portland.
Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) tagged down a career-best 17 kills on a .400 attack percentage against Gonzaga last week Thursday inside Firestone Fieldhouse. She followed that up with 15 put aways on 23 attempts for a career-high .565 clip versus Portland on Saturday. With the 33 total kills, she averaged a scorching 5.33 kills per set.
On defense, the junior totaled 19 digs including 11 against the Pilots to tally her third double-double (kills-digs) of the season and 14th of her career.
Notably versus the Bulldogs, Frederick recorded a kill on four consecutive points and finished with nine in just the second set alone. She concluded the weekend scoring five of the last six points in the third set against Portland, including three-straight kills to set up match point.
This is Frederick's first Player of the Week honor and second for the Waves this season. Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) was named WCC Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 6, 2010.
Frederick currently ranks second on the team this season in both kills and digs with 183 and 169, respectively.
Up for the Waves this week is a 7 p.m. match at Saint Mary's on Wed., Oct. 20. The contest will be broadcasted live on ESPNU. Pepperdine concludes the first half of league play at San Diego on Sat., Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
