STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 7 Pacific scored six goals between the second and third quarters en route to a 7-5 win over No. 13 Pepperdine during a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Pacific Aquatics Center. Waves' freshman goalkeeper Bence Valics (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Secondary) did his best to keep Pepperdine in the game as he tied a career high with 11 saves, while redshirt junior Travis Gough (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) and sophomore Danny White (Oxnard, Calif./Rio Mesa HS) paced the offense with two goals each.
The Tigers improved to 10-5 (1-1 MPSF) with the win, while Pepperdine fell to 8-10 (0-3 MPSF).
In the first frame, Pepperdine took a 1-0 lead at the 6:46 mark on a goal from Gough; however, the Tigers' Tyler Reardon found the back of the net 40 seconds later to tie the game at one all. With 1:03 remaining in regulation, Pepperdine regained the one-point advantage on a five-meter shot from White to make it a 2-1 contest.
But after sophomore James Perry (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte HS) notched a Waves' goal with 4:12 remaining on the second-quarter clock that put Pepperdine up 3-2, the Tigers countered with five consecutive goals, including two by Balazs Erdelyi.
The Waves battled their way back into the game with second-half goals White and Gough, but Pacific's defense proved too tough to overcome as Tiger goalkeeper Alex Malkis matched Valics' effort in the cage with 11 stops.
Pepperdine's next game is vs. Stanford next Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at Raleigh Runnels Memorial pool in Malibu.
