The Lynchburg Hillcats will be represented in the Arizona Fall League as Hillcats shortstop Chase d'Arnaud was named to the AFL's Scottsdale Scorpions roster. He is the only Hillcat on the Scorpions roster and will join five other heralded Pirates prospects in the esteemed league, which features many of baseball's top prospects.
Selection to the AFL is the latest honor bestowed upon d'Arnaud, a former Pepperdine University star. He began the 2009 campaign with West Virginia, Pittsburgh's Low-A affiliate, and was selected to the South Atlantic League's mid-season All-Star team. Earlier this month, d'Arnaud was named the Best Defensive Shortstop in the South Atlantic League in Baseball America's annual Best Tools issue, despite the fact that he has played with Lynchburg since the All-Star break. He is currently batting .287 with three home runs, three triples, 15 doubles and 23 RBI for the Hillcats.
After being selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, out of Pepperdine, d'Arnaud batted .286 with one home run, five triples, 10 doubles and 21 RBI with State College, Pittsburgh's Short-Season-A affiliate. He was selected to the New York-Penn League's mid-season All-Star team in 2008.
