LOS ANGELES -- Sally Lee Harrick, the wife of former Pepperdine basketball coach Jim Harrick, has died. She was 70.
UCLA said Harrick died Friday from complications of scleroderma at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. There is no known cause for the disease, which involves a buildup of collagen in the skin and other organs.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, three sons and three daughters-in-law, and nine grandchildren.
"Since first arriving on the Malibu campus, Jim and Sally have been supportive of Pepperdine," Pepperdine Director of Athletics John Watson said. "Sally was always by Jim's side and provided comfort, love and a listening ear to all Jim's players. Together, Jim and Sally daily modeled the constant love between husband and wife. The players learned the game of basketball from Jim and the importance of family from Jim and Sally. We extend our condolences and love to the Harrick family."
She will be remembered at a service to be held on Tuesday, November 24th at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 30522 Via Com Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.
In lieu of flowers the Harrick family asks that any donations please be offered to the Scleroderma Foundation at www.schleroderma.org.
Jim Harrick was Pepperdine's basketball coach for nine seasons between 1979-80 and 1987-88, posting a record of 167-97 (.633). His teams went to the NCAA Tournament four times and the NIT twice.
