Pepperdine-Cal Poly Box Score 
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.-The Pepperdine women's basketball team suffered a 62-59 loss to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Saturday afternoon in the Mott Gym, at San Luis Obispo.
The Waves (2-2) lost their first game to the Mustangs since Jan. 30, 1982. Katie Menton (Coarsegold, Calif,/Yosemite HS) was the game high-scorer with 20 points, five rebounds and one steal. Lauren Bell (San Bruno, Calif./ Sacred Heart Cathedral) scored 14 points with four rebounds and Jazmine Jackson (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) notched 11 points. The Waves shot 32 percent from the field to the Mustangs 40 percent. Pepperdine was 72 percent for free throws to Cal Poly SLO's 64 percent. The Waves had 15 turnovers to the Mustangs 17.
Abby Bloetscher's two field goals gave Cal Poly a 7-6 lead in the first five minutes, followed by a 18-5 scoring run to give the Mustangs a 25-11 lead with 6:30 left in the first half.
Bell shot a free throw a 5:57 followed by a shot from beyond-the-arc by Menton at 4:21. The Waves trailed 25-15.
Menton came back with a layup with 4:00 remaining in the half and another 3 pointer a 3:09 to close the gap at 26-20;
The Mustangs Kristina Santiago went to the free throw line 12 times in the first half, causing the Waves to trail at 32-23 when the buzzer sounded.
Pepperdine fought back in the second half scoring 16 points in less than six minutes. Bell's layup at 14:33 saw the Waves trailing by three points at 42-39.
The teams traded baskets until Jackson's three-pointer with 8:20 left on the clock. Pepperdine was down by eight points at 54-46.
Another Menton 3-pointer at 6:37 followed by a foul shot cut the lead to five with the Mustangs up 54-49. The Mustangs answered back with a jumper by Rachel Clancy with 4:34 on the clock followed by a Menton layup and foul shot to cut the Mustang lead to four points at 56-42.
Miranda Ayim (London, Ontario, Canada) made a jump shot with 3:35 on the clock to cut the lead once again and the Waves trailed by two points at 56-44.
A series of free throws for both teams followed until Becky Tratter's shot in the paint put the Mustangs up by five points at 60-55 with 1:57 left in the game.
In the final minute, Ayim and Bell made back-to-back shots in the paint, but it wasn't enough to catch Cal Poly. The buzzer sounded with the Mustangs up 62-59.
