BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 5 ranked Pepperdine water polo team suffered a disappointing 13-7 loss to No. 3 California on Saturday, after being tied 5-5 at the half.
Senior Brett Auer (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Beach HS) led the Wave offense with three goals. Freshman Tommy O'Connnell (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./ El Toro HS) was credited with eight saves in the goal.
Pepperdine (8-9, 1-3) was up 6-5 early in the third period. However, a strong Golden Bear (14-4, 2-1) offense took command and scored the next eight goals.
Next up, the Waves meet UCLA at 12 p.m. The Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool, in Malibu, Calif. on October 31.
