#5 WAVES FALL TO #3 STANFORD, 13-5
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 5 nationally ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team suffered a 13-5 loss to No. 3 Stanford on Sunday.
J.P. MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif./Bellarmine HS) was the high scorer for the Waves with two goals. Bryce Mclain (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Beach HS) was responsible for six saves in the goal.
Stanford (14-1, 2-0) jumped out to an early lead with six goals scored in the first quarter to the Waves (7-8, 1-2) one. MacDonell scored the lone goal for Pepperdine on a five-meter penalty shot.
Each team scored a goal in the second period, but the third period saw the Cardinal offense net four goals to the Waves two. The Waves scored a final goal in the fourth period with Stanford adding two more to make the score 13-5 when the buzzer sounded.
Next up for the Waves is another trip north when they meet UC Davis on Oct. 23 and California on Oct. 24.
