MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine head baseball coach Steve Rodriguez Wednesday announced that this year's Alumni Weekend will take place Nov. 7 and 8.
The weekend begins Friday with a golf tournament at Moorpark Country Club, and will be followed Saturday by an alumni game and the fifth-annual John Scolinos Honor Award Dinner. Complete details regarding times, locations and price options can be found on the attached pdf document or by contacting Heather Collart at heather.collart@pepperdine.edu.
Pepperdine baseball's fundraising golf tournaments help raise money for traveling, recruiting, equipment and other operating costs, while bringing together alumni, current players and supporters of the program. A second golf tournament fundraiser for Waves Baseball is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2009 at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The Scolinos award is given annually to a Pepperdine baseball player in recognition of exemplary behavior during a season or career. The recipient will be honored for demonstrating strong character traits, including humility, resourcefulness, loyalty, honesty, work ethic, Christian behavior and sportsmanship, which contribute to outstanding performance and dedicated efforts both on and beyond the baseball diamond. Previous recipients of the award were Cory Brightwell (2005), Steve Kleen (2006), Paul Coleman (2007) and Barry Enright (2008).
Scolinos coached the Waves’ football and baseball teams for 15 seasons from 1946-60 and compiled a 263-219 overall record on the diamond. After leaving Pepperdine, he coached Cal Poly Pomona for 30 seasons.
