Haren Named NL Pitcher of the Month

Haren was 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA over six starts for the D-backs. Haren notched 36 strikeouts over 41 innings of work and allowed only one run over his final 21 innings pitched. For the season, Haren is 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA, which ranks fourth in the National League. Haren leads the NL in WHIP (Walks+Hits/Innings Pitched) at .967, fewest walks per nine innings (1.55) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.05). The award marks the second Pitcher of the Month honor for Haren, as he was recognized as the American League Pitcher of the Month in May 2007. Haren was named a second team-All American in 2001 for the Waves and was also selected as the WCC Player of the Year. Haren was 29-11 with 2.77 ERA in three seasons at Pepperdine (1999-2001). Haren was drafted in the second round of the 2001 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
