PALOS VERDES, Calif. – Freshman Taylore Karle of the Pepperdine women’s golf team built a two-stroke lead after Tuesday’s second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, and will aim for her first collegiate title during Wednesday’s third and final round.
Unfortunately, the Waves’ team dropped from a tie for second place into seventh place following Tuesday’s team score of 306 at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club. Pepperdine is at 604, just two strokes out of fifth place.
This is the first tournament of the spring for the Waves. Twelve of the 15 teams participating are ranked in Golfweek’s top 25, including Pepperdine at #16.
Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz.) shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday following a tournament-opening 1-under 70, and her total of 141 puts her ahead of four competitors who are tied at 143. Karle recorded an eagle on the par-4 11th hole and had three birdies.
Senior Stephanie Gelleni (Caracas, Venezuela) began the day tied for 31st but shot a 75 and moved up into a tie for 24th at 151. Senior Leanne Bowditch (Peregian, Australia) is tied for 43rd, junior Jayvie Agojo (Bangkal, Philippines) is tied for 50th and freshman Martine de Gannes (Diego Martin, Trinidad) is tied for 75th.
