No. 5 Waves Fall to No. 2 Stanford

The Waves (16-6, 3-2) played a strong first-half both offensively and defensively against Stanford (21-2). However, the Cardinal took over offensively the second half by capitalizing on 6-on-5 opportunities. Adam Hewko (
Stanford’s Will Hindle-Katel scored early in the first period at 6:00 and Clayton Snyder (
Janson Wigo opened the second period with another goal for Stanford at 7:40, 3-1. Hewko shot his first goal of the match at 5:20 followed by a 5-meter penalty shot goal to tie the score, 3-3. With 1:46 left in the half Jacob Smith scored for Stanford on a 6-on-5 opportunity, 4-3.
The Cardinal took advantage of man-up opportunities in the third period to score two goals at 2:52 and :41, to end the period up by three, 6-3.
The Stanford scoring run continued into the fourth period with Wright and Jacobson giving the Cardinal two additional goals on 6-on-5 plays, 8-3. Hindel-Katel scored the final goal for Stanford at 4:26, 9-3. Hewko ended the match with a goal for the Waves with 59 seconds left on the clock, 9-4.
After a tough loss to the Cardinal, Pepperdine returned to the pool to take on
Pepperdine dominated the first half scoring five goals to Concordia’s three. Young had a three goal offensive run in the third period, while Cardey scored three goals in the fourth period. Two of Cardey’s goals were steals and a breakaway with one-on-nobody.
