Pepperdine's Lacy Wins WNBA Title

DETROIT, Mich. -- Former Pepperdine women's basketball standout Jennifer Lacy reached the pinnacle of her sport on Sunday night, as her Phoenix Mercury captured the 2007 WNBA championship.

Lacy, who played at Pepperdine from 2001-04, was part of a Mercury squad that defeated the Detroit Shock in the final game of a best-of-five series, 108-92, on Sunday. Phoenix trailed 2-1 and had to win the final two games, including the finale in Detroit.

Lacy only saw action in game two of the WNBA Finals, as she scored two points in three minutes of play during a 98-70 Phoenix victory on Sept. 8.

She holds the distinction of being the first West Coast Conference player to make a WNBA team. She played for Phoenix in 2006 and appeared in 33 games and averaged 4.9 points. In 2007, she played in 20 games and averaged 1.8 points.

Lacy, a 6-foot-3 forward, was an All-West Coast Conference selection in 2004-05 as she led the WCC in scoring at 16.9 points per game.
