Johnson Signs LOI to Play Basketball at Pepperdine

Malibu, Calif. - Daniel Johnson, a 6-foot-10 center/forward currently attending the Australian Institute of Sport in Australia, signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Pepperdine, men's basketball head coach Vance Walberg announced on Wednesday. Johnson will enroll at the University in the fall and will compete for the Waves during the 2007-08 season.

Johnson becomes the sixth player to officially commit to Pepperdine. He is joined by 6-7 combo guard Tyrone Shelley (San Diego, CA / Crawford HS), 6-8 forward Malcolm Thomas (San Diego, CA / Crawford HS), 5-9 point guard Tyler Tucker (San Diego, CA / Crawford HS), 6-6 shooting guard Jon Reed (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA / Peninsula HS) and 6-7 wing forward Mychel Thompson (Ladera Ranch, CA / Stoneridge Prep).

All six players signed during the early signing period in November.

Johnson earned a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in 2006 and helped his team capture the King Club International Cup en route to being voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 22 points, six rebounds, one assist, two blocks and a steal over five games.

He was also a member of the Australian National Under-19 team that competed in Germany, Taiwan and Italy in 2006.

During eight years of playing basketball is Australia, Johnson was a member of 22 division champions, nine runner-up teams, received six Most Valuable Player awards and was MVP runner-up twice.
