Waves End Season With 13-10 Win Over Long Beach

BERKELEY, Calif. Â Adam Hewko led the Pepperdine men’s water polo team to a win over Long Beach State Sunday, 13-8, in a match that would determine seventh place at the MPSF Championships at Berkeley, Calif. Hewko scored five goals for the Waves.

Long Beach finished the first-half with a one point lead over Pepperdine 7-6. The Waves came back fighting, with three goals scored in the third quarter and four in the seventh to outscore the Long Beach 7-3 in the second-half.

Sophomore J.P. MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif. / Bellarmine HS) contributed four goals, while freshman Caleb Hamilton (Irvine, Calif. / Northwood HS) was credited with two. Goalkeeper Travis Stachowski (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Foothill HS) recorded four saves in the first-half and junior Jack Curley (Sonoma, Calif. / Santa Rosa CC) was responsible for nine saves in the second-half of the game.

The Waves finished their 2007 campaign with a 27-10 record while Long Beach ended their season with a 17-15 record.
