Waves Drop MPSF Match to Santa Barbara, 8-7

BERKELEY, Calif. Â In a close match that saw seven ties and six lead changes, the No.6 Pepperdine men’s water polo team was defeated by No. 7 UC Santa Barbara 8-7, Saturday, at the MPSF Championships held at the Spieker Aquatic Center, in Berkeley, Calif.

The Waves (26-10) and the Gauchos (19-13) ended each of the first three quarters in a tie. A Santa Barbara goal by Zsombor Vincze with 6:21 left in the fourth quarter was the determining factor in the game.The winning goal was Zsombor’s third for the match. Junior Adam Hewko (Irvine, Calif. / Servite HS) and Sophomore Clayton Snyder (Seal Beach, Calif. / Los Alamitos HS) were credited with two goals each. Junior goalkeeper Jack Curley (Sonoma, Calif. / Santa Rosa CC) had six saves.

Sunday, Nov. 25, Pepperdine plays its final match of the season at 11 a.m. against No. 8 Long Beach for seventh place.
