Navy Claims 9-3 Win Over Orange in Fall WS

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team continued its Navy and Orange World Series on Wednesday, as the Navy team scored nine runs in the sixth inning to post a 9-3 victory in six innings.
The Navy team posted a 2-1 win on Tuesday and captured the second game after trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning and only three outs away from defeat.
“I thought both teams had great intensity even into the last inning,” Pepperdine Coach Steve Rodriguez said. “It’s good to see things guys in a game-like situation where the game is on the line and see how they react to stress and pressure.”
The Orange squad took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Donald Brown (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS) and Travis Tartamella (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos HS) , as well as an RBI groundout by Paul-Michael Klingsberg (Studio City, Calif./Notre Dame HS). The score remained at 3-0 until the top of the sixth, as the Navy team scored nine runs on only three hits, as they collected five walks, a hit by pitch and reached base on two errors. Tyler Hess (

Nate Simon (Duvall, Wash./Tulane) went 0-1 with three walks and two RBI for the Navy, Matt Aidem (Valencia, Calif./UC Santa Barbara/Valencia HS) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Matt Bywater (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) tossed two scoreless innings while fanning two.

The Navy and Orange World Series continues on Saturday with the final game, which begins at 12 p.m. The game is scheduled for a full nine innings and it is open to the public.
