Water Polo Takes on UCLA, UCSB This Weekend

UPCOMING — The No. 7 Pepperdine men’s water polo team travels to No. 3 UCLA and hosts No. 6 Santa Barbara this weekend for its last two conference matches.
GAME #33 — The Waves (24-7, 0-5) travel to Westwood to meet UCLA (18-5, 4-2) on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. UCLA is coming off a 14-6 win over Santa Barbara (Nov. 10). Ben Hohl was the leading scorer with four goals and goalkeeper Rick Wright had four saves while freshman Fraser Bunn had one.
GAME #34 — Pepperdine hosts UC Santa Barbara (18-11, 3-4) on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m., at the Raleigh Runnels Pool. The Gauchos defeated No. 7 Long Beach last weekend (Nov. 11) 7-6. Ross Sinclair and Miles Golic led the offense with two goals apiece. Goalkeeper Michael Robinson was credited with six saves.
PEPPERDINE VS. IRVINE — The Waves suffered a loss to No. 5 Irvine (Nov. 9) 8-7 in a closely contested match. Adam Hewko (Irvine, Calif. / Servite HS) led the offense with four goals while Travis Stachowski (Ranch Santa Margarita / Foothill HS) was creditited with 14 saves.
PEPPERDINE VS. CONCORDIA — Travis Gough (Carlsbad, Calif. / Carlsbad HS) and Andrew Milcovich (Walnut Creek, Calif. / De La Salle HS) helped lead the Waves to a 9-8 victory over Concordia with two goals each. Goalkeepers Jack Curley (Sonoma, Calif. / Santa Rosa CC) had six saves and Bryce McLain (Costa Mesa, Calif. / Newport HS) recorded five.
PEPPERDINE VS. UC SAN DIEGO — Sophomore Clayton Snyder ( Seal Beach, Calif. / Los Alamitos HS) made a statement with his first backhand goal of the game to lead the Waves to a 22-8 win over UCSD. Snyder went on to score four more goals. Adam Hewko scored three goals as did Matt MacDonell (Redwood City, Bellarmine HS). Grant Miller (La Verne, Calif. / Damien HS), Andrew Milcovich, J.P. MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif. / Bellarmine HS), and Nick Corjon (La Verne, Calif. / Bonita HS) all scored two for the Waves.
PEPPERDINE IN THE POLLS — The Waves fell to No. 7 in the national polls this week. UC Irvine take the No. 5 spot and UC Santa Barbara moved up to No. 6.
WAVES IN THE NATIONAL TOP 50 — Pepperdine was represented in each of the individual and team national water polo rankings this week. On the top 50 individual goal scorers list, Adam Hewko (51 goals, 2.1 per game) moved up eighteen spots to No. 30 and J.P. MacDonell moved up two spots to No. 35 (49 goals, 1.9 per game) and For top saves, Travis Stachowski is ranked No. 25 (135 saves, 7.1 per game) . In team rankings, the Waves moved up two places to No. 5 for team goal leaders (357 goals, 11.9 per game) and moved to No. 7 for defensive leaders (237 goals against, 7.4 per game).
FIVE PLAYERS IN MPSF TOP RANKINGS — Travis Stachowski moved up to No. 4 for goals against average (19 goals, 7.11 goals against average) and stayed at No.10 for goalie saves (135 saves, 7.11 saves per game). For scoring leaders, Adam Hewko moved up to the No. 6 spot (51 goals, 2.13 per game), J.P. MacDonell stayed at No. 8 (49 goals, 1.88 per game), Caleb Hamilton fell to No. 16 (26 goals, 1.44 per game) and Clayton Snyder moved up five places to share the No. 16 spot (39 goals, 1.44 per game). with Hamilton. For team points, Pepperdine moved up to No. 3 (362 goals, 11.31 per game). The Waves stayed at No. 5 for team goalkeeping (278 saves, 237 game average, 7.41 goals against average).
