Snyder's Six Goals Help Pepperdine Win Two

POMONA, Calif. Â Sophomore center Clayton Snyder scored a season-high six goals today at the Claremont Convergence at Pomona Â Pitzer College. The No. 5 Pepperdine men’s water polo team (14-3, 0-1) defeated Redlands (12-5), after an earlier win over Brown (17-4).

“Today was a great opportunity to get good playing experience. We’re using this weekend as preparation for the SoCal Tournament,” head coach Jack Kocur said.

In both matches nine Pepperdine players scored goals. Junior Grant Miller (LaVerne, Calif./ Damien HS) and junior attacker J.P. MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif./ Bellarmine HS) scored two goals each, while seven of their teammates recorded single goals at the Redlands match. Sophomore goalkeeper Travis Stachowski (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./ Foothill HS) was responsible for nine saves.

“Travis is doing a great job in the cage. Our goal this season was to hold teams under five goals and Travis is doing it, “ said Kocur.

 

Snyder (Seal Beach, Calif./ Los Alamitos HS) was the high-scorer in the Brown game with five goals. Senior attacker Nick Corjon (La Verne, Calif/ Bonit HS)) was responsible for four goals.  Seven Waves each added one goal to help secure the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Stachowski had eight saves.

Saturday morning, the Waves meet Occidental at Claremont College at 10:40 a.m. At 2:40 p.m. Pepperdine plays Chapman at the Pomona-Pitzer pool and at 6:40 p.m., the team takes on PomonaÂPitzer at the Pomona site. Pomona’s Head Coach Alex Rodriguez, was the Pepperdine Assistant Men’s Water Polo Coach prior to making the move to Pomona.
