In the second match of the day, UCLA’s offense attacked early scoring in the first two minutes of the game and leading 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Pepperdine was down 7-3 at the half, but came back with renewed energy to score three goals in the third quarter to UCLA’s two. The Bruins shut the Waves out in the fourth quarter scoring two and defeating Pepperdine for the second time this season.
“The team showed character in the third quarter. We tried to get back in the game. Unfortunately, the small things are hurting us and good teams like UCLA take advantage of that,” said head coach Jack Kocur.

The Waves (18-4,0-1) will meet LMU Sunday, at 8 a.m. at the Anteater Pool on the UC Irvine campus. The outcome of that match will determine the time and opponent for the second game.
