MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine University athletics director John Watson announced today the appointment of Jack Kocur as interim head water polo coach. Kocur steps up from his assistant coach position for the 2006 season while Terry Schroeder takes a one-year leave to serve as an assistant coach for the US National Team.
"I would like to thank Dr. Watson and Coach Schroeder for the opportunity to prove myself as a coach," said Kocur. "I really believe the water polo program has a very bright future and I am excited to be a part of the Wave family."
Kocur was a member of Pepperdine's national championship team in 1997. He also earned All-American honors while helping lead the Waves to its only national championship in water polo. The Calabasas, Calif., resident spent the previous four seasons as an assistant under Schroeder.
Joining Kocur as an assistant coach will be a familiar face in William Rodriguez. Rodriguez competed in water polo as a Wave in 2001 and 2002. After graduation, he continued his career as a member of the Puerto Rico national team.
Schroeder will remain close with the Pepperdine program and resume head coaching duties after his stint with the national team.
