Waves Makes it Three-for-Three at Pepperdine Mini

Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine water polo team defeated Pomona, 11-6, Sunday afternoon in the Waves' final game of the Pepperdine Mini. The victory was the third of the day for Pepperdine which improved to 8-9 on the season and has won four of its last six contests.
Freshman JP MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif.) and senior Doug Mann (Coronado, Calif.) led nine different Waves with two goals, while Dane Benham (San Diego, Calif.) recorded nine saves in the cage.
Tim Brown accounted for four of the six total goals for Pomona.
Three different Pepperdine athletes scored in the first period as the Waves led by one, 3-2, at the end of the first eight minutes. Pepperdine would tack on four more scores in the second frame, giving the Waves a commanding 7-3 lead at the half.
The scoring slowed down in the second half as Pepperdine maintained a comfortable lead before Mann wrapped up the scoring for the day with his second with 1:33 remaining in the game.
Pepperdine will next be in action at the SoCal Tournament in Los Angeles. The Waves are scheduled to face cross-town rival LMU and Cal in Saturday's pool-play. The Waves will conclude the tournament hosted by USC on Sunday.
