No. 13 Pepperdine Upends No. 8 UC Davis, 9-7

Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine water polo team started the Pepperdine Mini on a positive note, defeating No. 8-ranked UC Davis, 9-7. Freshman goalkeeper Travis Stachowski turned away 15 shots in the cage for the Waves who picked up their second victory in the last three games.
Pepperdine (6-9) received two goals from Jason Langten (Irvine, Calif.), Matt Lee (Portland, Ore.) and JP MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif.). Doug Mann (Coronado, Calif.), Sam Busby (La Jolla, Calif.) and Brett Auer (Newport Beach, Calif.) all scored once.
Josh McNeely led UC Davis with two goals, while five others scored once in the loss.
The Aggies opened the game with a pair of scores before Lee got the home team on the board. McNeely's first goal of the afternoon with 38 seconds remaining in the period had UC Davis up 3-1 after one quarter.
Langten, MacDonell and Auer scored consecutive goals for the Waves who took their first lead of the day, 4-3. McNeely would score the final goal of the period to knot the game at 4-4 heading into the half.
Lee's second goal of the day regained the lead for the Waves, while Mann's score at the 5:38 mark of the third pushed Pepperdine up by two, 6-4. UC Davis would score twice more in the period but Langten's goal at the 4:17 mark kept the Waves up by one, 7-6, heading into the final stanza.
Busby provided the game-winning score on Pepperdine's first possession of the fourth quarter. The Aggies would pull within one, 8-7, on a two-on-none breakaway goal but MacDonell would tack on a final score with 1:59 remaining in the contest to ice the victory.
