The Pepperdine water polo team will be looking for its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) victory of the season Wednesday afternoon when it host UC Irvine at 2 p.m. in a midweek match up between the two southern California schools.
Pepperdine (10-12, 0-1 MPSF) is coming off an 8-6 loss to Stanford in its conference opener last weekend. Freshman JP MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif.) continues to have a stellar rookie season, scoring a team-leading 42 goals along with a team-high 13 assists. Junior Jason Langten (Irvine, Calif.) is second on the team in points with 25 goals and 10 assists, while freshman Travis Stachowski (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) has stopped a team-best 110 shots in the cage.
Wednesday's contest will mark the third time this season these two teams have face each other, with the season series tied at 1-1. The Anteaters picked up a 10-9 victory on September 17 at the NorCal tournament, while the Waves evened the score with a 12-11 overtime decision in the seventh-place game of the SoCal tournament.
The ball is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m. at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The game will be the first of three league contests this week for Pepperdine which travels to Cal and Pacific over the weekend.
