MALIBU, Calif. - Off to a convincing 3-0 start to the 2005 season at the Triton Invitational last weekend, the Pepperdine men's water polo team will look to have the same success Saturday when it opens the home portion of its schedule against Loyola Marymount at Noon at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
Sophomore Adam Hewko recorded a team-best nine goals in the Waves' three contests in La Jolla, Calif., last weekend to pace a Pepperdine attach which outscored its opponents by a 31-15 margin. Senior All-American Jesse Smith chipped in five scores over the weekend, while sophomore Grant Miller netted four goals.
Pepperdine upended the N0. 9-ranked Lions by a 10-4 count last weekend as Miller scored a pair of third-period goals to lead eight different Waves in scoring.
This weekend's match will be the only home contest for Pepperdine until Sept. 24-25 when the Waves host UC Irvine and UCLA at Noon and 1 p.m., respectively.
