Malibu, Calif. - Bobby Warlick, a 1980 inductee into the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame and a member of the Pepperdine men's basketball team from 1961-63, passed away on September 6, in Long Beach, California. He was 64.
During Warlick's two seasons at Pepperdine, the men's basketball team compiled an overall record of 34-18, including a 20-7 mark during the 1961-62 season in which the Waves captured the West Coast Athletic Conference (WCAC) title.
That same season Warlick earned All-American honors after averaging 16.4 points and 9.6 rebounds a contest and helping Pepperdine advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to coming to Pepperdine, Warlick garnered All-American honors and was named the National Junior College Player of the Year after leading Pueblo Junior College in Pueblo, Colorado, to the national championship.
Following his collegiate career, Warlick played six seasons of professional basketball with the NBA's Detroit Pistons (1965-66), San Francisco Warriors (1966-68), Milwaukee Bucks (1968-69) and Phoenix Suns (1968-69). Warlick was also community-minded as he founded Star Child, Inc. (now Youth Sports Foundation), a private foundation, on March 20, 2003. The foundation was founded to help ensure continued funding of the Mothership's connection to Franklin Middle School Cyberspace After-School Computer Learning Center and Books `N' Balls Reading and Tutoring Center Program at Ridgeview Library in his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina.
