MALIBU, Calif. - This weekend the No. 6-ranked Pepperdine water polo team will wrap up the 2005 regular season as it hosts Pacific and Long Beach State at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif. Saturday's game against the Tigers is scheduled for noon, while Sunday's game against the 49ers is slated for 1 p.m. (PDT).
Pepperdine is 15-9 on the season (1-5 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) this season and is coming off its roughest stretch of the season. Senior Jesse Smith leads the Waves in scoring with 49 goals including seven in the last six contests. Sophomore Adam Hewko ranks second in goals this season with 35, while Grant Miller is right behind with 34 and Matt Digges has tallied 25.
This weekend's games will determine what seed Pepperdine will head in to the MPSF post-season tournament with next weekend. The tournament will be hosted by USC. Complete brackets and game times will be available early next week.
