San Martin, Calif. - Sophomore Colin Wilcox fired a 1-under 71 on Monday and is currently tied for eighth after the first round of inaugural CordeValle Collegiate hosted by UCLA at the par-72, 7,169-yard CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin, California.
Wilcox 1-under score helped the Waves to an opening-round 7-over 295 and a 10th-place standing after 18 holes. Teams are still out on the course attempting to finish the second round. If play is unable to be completed, the teams will conclude the second round Tuesday morning before starting the final round. All the action can be followed live at www.golfstat.com.
UCLA held the first-round lead after shooting a 4-under 284 to hold a one-shot advantage of Arkansas (285). Northwestern (287) was third followed by Augusta State (289) and USC and Texas who were tied for fifth with 3-over scores of 291.
Arkansas' Matt Bortis and Notre Dame's Mike King shared the first-round lead with 4-under 68s, one shot ahead of Augusta State's Major Manning, Northwestern's David Merkow and California's Michael Wilson who all shot 3-under 69s.
Pepperdine's Michael Baird was tied for 24th after shooting a 1-over 73. Senior Alex Coe carded a 2-over 74 and was tied for 34th while J.J. Wood was tied for 61st and freshman Adam Porzak, making his collegiate debut, shot an 11-over 83 and was 78th.
