No. 6 Pepperdine Downs Whittier, 17-13, in Nightcap

MALIBU, Calif. - In its second game of the day, the Pepperdine water polo team defeated Whittier College, 17-13, to cap off a 2-0 Saturday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif. The 17 goals by Pepperdine is the most points scored by a Waves team since a 31-point showing against Occidental in 1997.

Pepperdine (9-3) received goals from 10 different players with Grant Miller and Adam Hewko leading the charge with three each. The Waves scored on each of their first three shots and connected on 17 of 25 in the victory. Nick Corjon, Brian Whitlock and Trevor Goyette all scored twice, while Jason Langten, Greg Goble and Jeff Willis tacked on a goal each.

Whittier's (3-9) Dave Mulcahey scored a game-high five goals to lead the Poets.

The Waves will return to action on Thursday evening when it opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at UC Irvine. Pepperdine is 2-0 against the Anteaters this season in non-conference games.
