The Huskies took the early lead and never lost the momentum the entire game. It took the Waves almost six minutes to tally their first points in the opening period thanks to Washington's tight defense. Funn was the lone Wave who was on target early after recording Pepperdine's first 8-of-10 points. Part of Pepperdine's fault was found on the defensive end, as it couldn't stop the Huskies outside game where they managed five 3-pointers in the first half.

The Waves completed the period 7-of-26 from the field for a low 26.9 shooting percentage. Pepperdine missed 10 free throws (7-of-17) in the opening period. Funn paced the Waves with 10 points as Pepperdine went to the break down, 39-22.

Pepperdine came out from the half and registered five 3-pointers in the first seven minutes of action to pull within 13 points (54-41) with 11:01 on the clock. Law and Shandrika Lee finished off two of the long bombers and Kelly Greathouse added one from beyond the arc, respectively, during that period.

The Waves never got closer than 12 points in the second half as Washington moved on to the second round with a 71-59 victory.

Andrea Lelum had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Washington Huskies.
