Miller Collects 18 Saves as Waves Defeat No. 4 Cal

In the lowest scoring match of the season, the Waves upset fourth-ranked California 4-3 in the loser's bracket of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship Tournament.  The win moves Pepperdine into the fifth-place game where it will face Long Beach State at 1:30 p.m.

In what proved to be a defensive struggle, the Waves held Cal to only three goals on Saturday as they pulled out the victory.  Pepperdine's outstanding defense was anchored by goalkeeper Robbie Miller who posted a season-best 18 saves.  His performance in goal was a tournament best, and led the Waves to the 4-3 victory.

The Waves scored once in the first to head into the second quarter tied with Cal.  Two goals in the second would put the Waves ahead for good as they headed into the half with a 3-1 lead.

Nick Corjon scored what proved to be the winning goal with 0:42 left in the third quarter to put the Waves up 4-2.  The Golden Bears pulled within one with 3:07 left in the match, but Pepperdine's defense was too strong as Cal was held scoreless the rest of the match.

Corjon was joined by Doug Mann, Matt Digges and Adam Hewko, who each scored once in the match.  Miller's performance in goal was the highlight of the day as he managed to hold the Bears to a season-low three goals.
