No. 11 Waves Defeat No. 6 LMU in Upset

The 11-th-ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team dominated from beginning to end as it upset local rival and sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount, 7-3, Thursday afternoon at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
The Waves turned in a solid performance as they controlled all aspects of the game to improved their record to 12-12 on the season.
The Waves scored first, with a goal at 6:33 in the first quarter by Matt MacDonell. After LMU tied the contest 1-1, Pepperdine assumed the lead for good with 1:59 left in the first quarter thanks to a goal by Grant Miller.
Miller padded the Waves lead with another goal in the second quarter that gave Pepperdine a 3-1 lead heading into halftime. LMU scored the first goal of the second. However, two goals by senior Josh Acosta and a third by Miller put the match out of reach. Pepperdine headed into the final quarter with a 6-2 lead.
Adam Hewko scored the Wave's final goal at 5:59 in the fourth as the Waves cruised to a 7-3 victory. Robbie Miller played tremendous goal, recording nine saves while holding the Lions to three goals.
The Waves travel to UC Santa Barbara this Saturday for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match against the Gauchos at 2 p.m. Pepperdine is currently eighth in the MPSF standings with a 2-5 league record.
