Malibu, Calif. - UCLA's Ben Kohlloeffel made the finals of the Wilson/ITA Regional Tennis Championship brief Monday as he beat San Diego State's Armando Carrascosa in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 at Pepperdine University.
Carrascosa won the first game of each set, but Kohlloeffel bounced back taking six straight games twice in the one hour match.
Dispite not dropping a set in any of his six matches, Kohlloeffel's finals match was his most dominant performance in his run towards the championship.
With the win Kohlloeffel joins the UCLA tandem of Alberto Francis and Krzysztof Kwinta as tournament champions. Francis/Kwinta defeated Roger Matalonga and Colin O'Grady of Arizona in Sunday's doubles championship.
For their efforts this weekend, Kohlloeffel, Carrascosa and Francis/Kwinta earn automatic berths in the November 4-7 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship at the University of Michigan.
Sunday's Results-- Doubles Finals, 5:30 p.m.
Francis/Kwinta (UCLA) def. Matalonga/O'Grady (UA), 8-4
Monday's Results-- Singles Finals, 12:45 p.m.
Ben Kohlloeffel (UCLA) def. Armando Carrascosa (SDSU), 6-1, 6-1
