Pepperdine Handed Tough Loss by No. 2 Stanford

The Pepperdine men's water polo team fell behind quickly and never got back into the match as its was handed a 12-3 loss at the hands of No. 2 Stanford Saturday afternoon at Raleight Runnels Memorial Pool. The Waves dropped to 9-9 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
Pepperdine returns to Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool to take on No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Adam Hewko opened up the match with a goal in the first quarter to give the Waves a 1-0 lead. By the end of the quarter, Pepperdine would already be playing catch-up as the Cardinal took a 3-1 lead after the first period of play.
The Waves fell even further behind in the second despite a goal by freshman Grant Miller. Pepperdine trailed at half by the score of 6-2.
Heading into the final quarter, the Waves were looking at an 8-2 deficit. They got one goal back as Doug Mann scored to open the fourth. Stanford struck back by scoring four unanswered goals to close out the game and hand the Waves a 12-3 loss.
Goalkeeper Robbie Miller had 9 saves in the match but was unable to keep Stanford out of the net for most of the match as Pepperdine allowed the Cardinal to match the highest scoring performance by an opponent this season. Loyola Marymount also scored 12 against the Waves earlier this season.
