LONG BEACH -- Sixth-seeded Pepperdine jumped out to a four-goal lead to which fifth-seeded Long Beach State could not recover as the Waves claimed a 12-8 victory and a fifth-place finish. The 49ers finish sixth. Jesse Smith was Pepperdine's leading scorer with a hat trick, while Michael Hausmann, Josh Acosta and Morgan Matthies each found the back of the net twice. Reid Tomassi led the way for Long Beach State with five goals, including a penalty shot in the second period.
