Waves Fall Short In Overtime Against UCLA, 7-6

MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine Waves put up a hard fight but in the end fell short, as the fourth-ranked UCLA Bruins took an overtime victory, 7-6, at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. The Waves fall to 3-5 in MPSF and 16-7 overall. Meanwhile, the Bruins finish 7-1 in MPSF play and 18-5 overall.

Michael Hausmann put the Waves ahead early in the match as he converted a penalty shot only 49 seconds into the game. UCLA rattled off two straight goals to go ahead 2-1 with 4:10 left in the first half. However, Josh Acosta found the back of the net with only 24 seconds remaining to tie the score on an extra-man goal.

UCLA scored three goals in the fourth quarter to force the match into overtime. Ormsby, along with Chris Pulido and Peter Belden led the Bruin charge in the final frame after UCLA had trailed 4-3 heading into the fourth.

Ben Tait recorded eight saves in the match.

The Waves will host an exhibition game against the USA national team on Tuesday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool at 2 p.m. before preparing for the MPSF tournament.
