Offensive Shootout Gives Coach Schroeder Win No. 300

Oct. 18, 2003

MALIBU, CALIF. -- Head coach Terry Schroeder earned his 300th all-time victory in perhaps the biggest way possible, after the No. 3 Pepperdine Waves defeated the No. 16 Pacific Tigers, 16-2, in MPSF Conference action at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Saturday. Nine different Waves' players scored in the offensive shootout.

The win improves Pepperdine to 12-2 on the season.

"I am very excited about the win and I hope it gives up momentum going into tomorrow," said Schroeder. "We had a chance to let some different guys play and they came through for us. It was a great match and now we turn our attention to Cal."

Right away, Jesse Smith got on the boards at 5:43 and scored his second goal less than a minute later. Pepperdine finished the first period ahead 6-0. The following three quarters featured great play on both ends of the pool by the Waves, as the Tigers didn't manage to score until 5:26 in the final quarter when the MPSF leading scorer, Eddie Wisniewski, completed a goal and teammate Adam Zobler completed one.

Smith and Michael Hausmann led both teams with three goals, followed by Josh Acosta (2), John Ashby (2), Matt Hahn (2), Jordan Keitel, Scott Harvey, Tom Jasper, and France Denk.

Furthermore, leading MPSF goalie, Ben Tait, tallied five saves and had zero goals scored against him.

The Waves will host top-ranked California on Sunday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. Gametime is set for noon.
