In his premier season with the squad, Astor helped coach the Waves to one of the best seasons in recent years, which was uncommonly played in Spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team finished with a No. 20 AVCA Coaches Poll final ranking and a NCAA Championship second round appearance. Pepperdine went 17-4 overall and 16-2 in the WCC to finish second in the league. The program saw the first two AVCA All-Americans honors since the 2013 season, with Shannon Scully and Rachel Ahrens having achieved the feat. Three players earned AVCA All-Pacific South Region and five to All-WCC postseason accolades, including Madison Shields to WCC Libero of the Year and Meg Brown to WCC Freshman of the Year. Scully, Ahrens, Brown and Isabel Zelaya were also named All-WCC first teamers.
Astor brings over 20 years of coaching experience, spanning multiple sports, at various levels including college, high school and club to the program. His first volleyball coaching position began in 2003 and since then, he has stretched his talents into coaching both football and basketball arenas during that time as well.

Before getting into the college game, Astor served as the Head Varsity Girls Coach for Corona del Mar High School, leading his squads to an impressive 139-49 record and six League Championships from 2013-18. His teams earned recognition as a top-100 team in four out of six seasons he was at the helm.
Prior to CDMHS, Astor was the Head Varsity Boys Coach at Newport High School from 2011-13, leading the team to a 1st place finish at the 2012 OC Championships Tournament. He served as an assistant coach at Orange Coast College from 2008-11, helping lead the team to State Runner-Up finishes in 2008 and 2009 and Semifinalist status in 2010 and 2011. Â
His longest stint to date has been with Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, a stand that began in 2003 and ended in 2018 and that carried him through various levels of the program. He led the 17-1 squad from 2012-14, leading the team to silver medal finishes at US Junior Nationals in 2012 and 2014. While with the club, he coached with the likes of current USA Men’s Volleyball Head Coach John Speraw.
While at BBVC, Astor was also an Associate Head Coach for both girls and boys and Laguna Beach High School from 2006-12, leading the boys’ squad as Interim Head Coach for a part of the season to 2010 CIF and CIF State Regional titles in 2010. He led the girls’ team to CIF D2 crowns in both 2006 and 2007.Â
