Jaan Kononov

Jaan Kononov makes his return to Pepperdine as a women's tennis assistant coach in fall 2023.

Kononov, who was a volunteer assistant coach from 2019-22, comes to Malibu after spending a year as an assistant coach at Minnesota last season.

In his first stint at Pepperdine, Kononov helped the Waves win three West Coast Conference championship titles and was instrumental in helping Janice Tjen, Savannah Broadus and Lisa Zaar make deep runs in the 2022 NCAA singles and doubles championship.

Prior to his time at Pepperdine, Kononov was a graduate assistant at Grand Canyon, where the Antelopes won the Western Athletic Conference championship and tournament with a 19-7 record. At GCU, Kononov coached a top 60-ranked doubles team. 

In his own professional tennis career, Kononov participated in the Estonian Davis Cup team and was an Estonian en's National Championship Finalist in doubles and singles.

Kononov graduated from San Diego in 2019, where he helped the men's tennis team reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and win a WCC title.
