David Fix, Will Steinberg Compete at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - David Fix and Will Steinberg kicked off the fall season for Pepperdine men's tennis at the Milwaukee Fall Classic this past weekend, hosted by Marquette.

The duo battled together in doubles, defeating Western Michigan's Drew Evans and Oscar Corwin 6-2 before falling to Igor Kudriashov and Kai Milburn in the quarterfinals.

In singles action, Steinberg dropped his match to Oscar Corwin in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), but the highlight of the day was Fix's singles run. He played a total of four singles matches and started off with a straight-set victory over Thomas Van Den Dooren (6-2, 6-2). Fix would then defeat Curzio Manucci in straight sets (6-1, 6-1), and continued to dominate in his third match over Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes. The junior dropped only three sets, once again reigning victorious in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Fix put up a good fight against Cooper Woestendick of TCU in Fix's fourth singles match, winning 6-3 in the first set. Set two was a battle, but Woestendick got the best of him 7-5, and won 10-6 on a tiebreaker in set three and Fix dropped the match.

The Waves continue their fall schedule at the 125 Tiburon Challenger, which began yesterday and runs through Sunday, September 20.

"It was a really positive weekend for both guys," said Assistant Coach Diego Castillo. "Will was able to get his first collegiate win, which was awesome to see. David played great throughout his first three matches, beating some really good players and putting himself in a position to make a deep run. He lost a tough one to a great player from TCU in the semifinals, but overall I'm proud of the way both guys competed and represented the Waves.
