MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine will officially usher in a new era beginning Dec. 5 and 6 as The Mountain at Mullin Park opens its doors for the first time, with both basketball programs hosting games.
Pepperdine men's basketball will host Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, Dec. 5, with women's basketball set to host Boise State on Sunday, Dec. 6. Game times and additional event details will be available this fall.
The opening weekend will mark the first collegiate competitions inside the state-of-the-art, 3,600-seat arena, which serves as the centerpiece of The Mountain at Mullin Park, Pepperdine's transformative athletics, recreation and student wellness complex.Â
"The Mountain at Mullin Park is more than a new building. It represents the next chapter of Pepperdine Athletics and a new standard for the student-athlete and fan experience," said Tanner Gardner, Director of Athletics. "We have been looking forward to this moment for a long time, and opening the doors to The Mountain with both of our basketball programs competing in the first weekend is going to be incredibly special. Firestone Fieldhouse holds more than five decades of memories, and we are excited to create the next generation of memories in a facility that reflects the ambition of Pepperdine Athletics. We cannot wait to welcome our community to The Mountain and experience it together for the first time."
The facility features a 360-degree high-definition center-hung videoboard, premium hospitality spaces, custom team locker rooms and one of the premier collegiate game-day environments on the West Coast.
Upon opening, The Mountain at Mullin Park will become the permanent home for Pepperdine's men's and women's basketball, plus the men's and women's indoor volleyball programs. The opening of the facility marks the conclusion of an era at Firestone Fieldhouse, which served as the home of Waves basketball and volleyball for more than five decades. The last athletic event in Firestone Fieldhouse will be on Nov. 28, when the women's volleyball team hosts Seattle. To purchase tickets to the Firestone Finale, visit PepperdineWaves.com/tickets.
