Beach Volleyball Improves to 4-0 in Queen's Cup

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Pepperdine beach volleyball (6-6) evened its record to .500 today, with a pair of 4-1 wins coming against Concordia (4-6) and Saint Mary's (9-3). The Waves sit at an undefeated 4-0 in Queen's Cup play heading into the final day of competition.

The Golden Eagles of Concordia were the team's first test of the day. Flights four and five both won their points in just two sets, but there were third set theatrics on the first two courts. Emma Eden and Michaela Cyrani both fell behind in the first rally, but made routine work of their opposition in the following duels. Gabbie Perez and Madison Snow also dropped the first, before needing an odyssey of a second set to avoid the sweep. They won after a whopping 54 combined serves, 28-26, then prevailed 15-8 in the tie-breaker.

Despite the identical score, the team's win against the Gaels was far less dramatic. No flights needed a third to decide a winner, and only two rallies were won above the standard 21-point threshold (both ended 22-20).

Sonia Mancuso and Alice Jagielska picked up a win in the later window, while Emma Eden and Michaela Cyrani, Gabbie Perez and Madison Snow, and flightmates Emi Erickson and Ginevra Merlini went undefeated on the day.

The Queen's Cup concludes tomorrow with the Waves set to face No. 12 Hawai'i (4-5) at 11:45 a.m. PST and fellow Aloha State school, Chaminade (4-6) at 3:30 p.m. PST. Live Stats against the Silverswords can be accessed here, and against the Rainbow Wahine here

Host, Hawai'i, is the only ranked team the Waves will face during their stay on the islands. Both the Rainbow Wahine and the Waves lost to common opponent No. 3 USC, and since secured wins against San Jose State and Concordia. While Hawaii secured an opening day victory versus then-No. 1 UCLA, they lost 3-2 today against Saint Mary's—a team the Waves defeated.
