HONOLULU, Hawaii – Pepperdine beach volleyball (4-6) won both games on its first of three days of doubleheaders. They started their morning on Queen's Beach with a 4-1 defeat of UNC Wilmington (2-5) before earning the sweep of San Jose State (3-5).
The Waves snapped their three-game losing streak in a victory over the Seahawks that saw the team only relent one point. The first flight of Emma Eden and Michaela Cyrani were put on watch early, but took their first set 22-20. UNC Wilmington was held below 19 points in seven of its ten sets.
Next up was San Jose State. Despite the Spartans best efforts to keep it close, Pepperdine won the affair 5-0. Emma Bubelis and Deanie Woodruff won the thriller on court five to keep SJSU out of the point tally. Initially falling behind 16-21, they won the second set in extras 22-20 before eking out the 16-14 nailbiter in set three. Alice Jagielska and Sonia Mancuso also needed the tie-breaker—winning 15-11 on court three.
Maddy Snow took to the sand wearing an unfamiliar jersey number of 15, but her play was anything but. Her partner, Gabbie Perez, along with flights 1, 3, and 4 won each of their matches today in just two sets. Snow will return to number 3 for the rest of the season.
