No. 16 Women's Tennis Posts 4-0 Victory at Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. — No. 16 Pepperdine women's tennis (6-3, 2-0 WCC) earned a 4-0 road conference win at Gonzaga (5-6, 0-1 WCC) Wednesday afternoon in Spokane.

The Waves swept singles matches on courts 2-4 after claiming the doubles point, improving to 2-0 in the West Coast Conference on the season.

Živa Falkner and Sonja Zhiyenbayeva got the Waves going with a 6-3 doubles win on court one, improving to 4-1 on the season as a tandem.

Alexia Harmon and Shihomi Leong clinched the doubles point soon after, recording a 6-4 win on court three.

Anastasiia Grechkina and Chantal Suavant remained unbeaten on the season, seeing their match on two abandoned while they were ahead 5-3.

Moving to singles, Duru Söke continued her dominant play with a two-set win, improving her to 4-0 on the dual match season. Söke defeated Rose Hayes 6-1, 6-2 which put Pepperdine ahead 2-0.

Harmon posted a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four next, giving Pepperdine a commanding 3-0 advantage. Harmon is now 6-2 on the season and has won her last four matches.

Sauvant clinched the match soon after for the Waves on two, taking down Elizabeth Tindera by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Sauvant and Harmon are now both 2-0 in conference play through the first two WCC matches.

Leong saw her match abandoned on five while up a set, after claiming set one 6-0. Liam Oved had dropped her first set but was ahead 5-0 in the second as the match was clinched. Grechkina had taken a 6-5 lead in her second set on court one, after dropping the first set.

Pepperdine women's tennis has been a consistent powerhouse in the collegiate scene, reaching 40 NCAA Tournaments since 1982 including 28 straight appearances. Since 2018, the program has seen three national runner-ups between both singles and doubles while reaching an NCAA Regional as a team eight times in the past nine tournaments. The success at the conference level has been paramount with 33 WCC Championships including an active streak of 11 consecutive conference titles. With its 24 total All-Americans, the program has also consistently sent players to the pro circuit following their time in Malibu.
