MALIBU, Calif. - Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida and Lasse Poertner earned two of the three weekly awards, as announced today by the WCC (West Coast Conference).
Â
Poertner earned Singles Player of the Week while Almeida collected another Freshman of the Week honor.
Â
The accolades come on the heels of an impressive victory for the Waves last Sunday at No. 40 Harvard, as Pepperdine took down the Crimson 5-2 without perhaps the squad's best player in Edward Winter, who has won a weekly WCC award several times this season.
Â
Almeida played a big role in the Waves' win over Harvard, defeating the Crimson's Mitchell Lee on flight five in straight sets (7-5, 6-3), while assisting in the doubles point by combining with Hugh Winter to defeat Harvard's Masato Perera and James Mcdonald.
Â
Poertner's dominant spring continued by tallying a point for the Waves on flight two over Peter Privara. After dropping the first set, Poertner prevailed in the second set 6-3 before finishing off Privara by the same score in the third set. He also defeated No. 27 Columbia's Sachin Palta, ranked 66th in the country, in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Poertner previously earned WCC Singles Player of the Week on February 3, 2026.
