No. 24 Men's Tennis Shuts Out No. 4 Stanford

MALIBU, Calif. - No. 24 Pepperdine men's tennis (5-2) blanked No. 4 Stanford (6-1) by a final score of 4-0 in a top-25 battle Friday afternoon from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

It marked the Waves' first top-five victory since upsetting No. 5 USC (4-2) in Malibu on February 26, 2022.

The Waves won the doubles point with wins on court one and three, before claiming three straight singles victories to earn the shutout win.

"This team has some magic in how they connect to each other", commented Director of Tennis Adam Schaecheterle. "We are all coaches and players invested in exploring how good we can become. I love how every player is willing to dig for each other. Already looking forward to another battle with the Bruins tomorrow!"

Pepperdine earned the doubles point thanks to the duo of Aleksa Pisaric and Lasse Poertner, and the combination of Maxi Homberg and Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida. The former handled Stanford's Jagger Leach and Alex Chang (6-3), while the latter conquered Alexander Razeghi and Mark Krupkin (6-2).

After clinching the doubles point, the Waves continued to dominate in singles matches. Edward Winter defeated the Cardinal Samir Banerjee in two sets (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 1 position.

Pepperdine had a great effort from David Fix at flight six, who came back after dropping the first set. He took sets two and three from Mark Krupkin, securing 12 of the final 13 games to deliver victory for the Waves (3-6, 6-1, 6-0).

Aleksa Pisaric then took down Stanford's Jagger Leach in a pair of sets (7-5, 7-5) on court four to clinch the match for the Waves.

At the No. 3 position, Lasse Poertner won the tiebreaker against No. 53 Hudson Rivera in the first set by a 7-3 mark and was up 4-3 in the second before going unfinished.

On two, Maxi Homberg won the first set (6-4) against No. 80 Alex Chang, and was leading the second set, 6-5, when the match was abandoned.

Almeida dropped the first set on court five (3-6) before winning the second (6-1), eventually going unfinished.
