Women's Tennis Opens Fall Slate at the Battle in the Bay

MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine women's tennis will open up its fall campaign at the Battle in the Bay hosted by Cal at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco from Sept. 11-14.

Three Waves will be in action in the 32-player singles draw, featuring sophomores Anastasiia Grechkina, Alexia Harmon and Liam Oved. Grechkina and Harmon will also feature in the field of 16 in the doubles draw, competing as the No. 2 seed.

The field for the tournament includes athletes from Pepperdine, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Sacramento State, San Jose State, TCU, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC and Washington State.

The doubles matchup will get the Waves started at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, with Grechkina and Harmon set to take on TCU's Letizia Corsini and Yu-Chin Tsai.  The pair for the Waves comes into the 2025-26 campaign ranked No. 21 in the ITA doubles rankings.

Grechkina enters the singles draw as the No. 1 seed after coming in at No. 37 in the ITA Preseason Rankings last month. The reigning First Team All-WCC selection as a freshman will take on Oklahoma State's Marcela Lopez at noon on Thursday in the opening round of 32.

Harmon, who was tabbed at No. 97 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, comes into the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will begin with a matchup against Arizona's Haylee Conway at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday in the round of 32.

Oved will round out the opening day for the Waves, taking on Colorado's Lera Alexin at 5:00 p.m. Oved achieved a 15-9 overall singles record during her freshman campaign in 2024-25.

Thursday, Sept. 11  — Singles Round of 32 & Doubles Round of 16
Friday, Sept. 12 — Singles Round of 16/Quarterfinals & Doubles Quarterfinals
Saturday, Sept. 13 — Singles & Doubles Semifinals
Sunday, Sept. 14 — Singles & Doubles Final

Pepperdine women's tennis has been a consistent powerhouse in the collegiate scene, reaching 40 NCAA Tournaments since 1982 including 28 straight appearances. Since 2018, the program has seen three national runner-ups between both singles and doubles while reaching an NCAA Regional as a team eight times in the past nine tournaments. The success at the conference level has been paramount with 33 WCC Championships including an active streak of 11 consecutive conference titles. With its 24 total All-Americans, the program has also consistently sent players to the pro circuit following their time in Malibu.
