LOS ANGELES, Calif.  —  The Pepperdine beach volleyball team wrapped up the Battle 4 L.A. with split results on Saturday.
 
The Waves defeated CSUN 3-2 in the afternoon, but fell to top-ranked UCLA 4-1 in the morning. 

CSUN RECAP
The Matadors took an early 1-0 lead after winning court four in straight-sets, 21-13, 21-14. Madison Oriskovich (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Gabriella Perez (Loomis, Calif.) tied things up after the first flight as they swept court two 21-15, 21-16.
 
Eden and Foti took the first set on court three 21-15 before winning a back-and-forth second set 21-19 to take the court and put the Waves in front 2-1. CSUN would then tie things back up after winning court five in straight-sets, 22-20, 21-14.
 
In position No. 1, Kate Clermont (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and McKenna Thomas (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) took the first set 21-17 on the deciding court, but the Matadors forced a third after they won the second set 22-20. In the final set, the Waves duo jumped out to a 5-2 lead before cruising to a 15-6 win to seal the duel and defeat the Matadors 3-2.

In flight one, UCLA jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as they swept courts two and four with respective scores of 21-9, 21-12 and 21-11, 21-13. 
 
UCLA then clinched the duel with a 21-12, 21-14 win on court one before winning 21-14, 21-10 in slot No. 5 to make it 4-0.
 
Over on court three, Emma Eden (Albuquerque N.M.) and Ella Foti (Madison, Wis.) dropped the first set 11-21 before taking a tightly contested second 21-19 to force an all-deciding third. In the third, the Waves duo fell behind 11-12 before winning four of the last five points to win 15-13 and take the court to avoid the sweep.
