Piskorz Earns Second West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Honor

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.  — Winning a West Coast Conference weekly award for the second time this season, Pepperdine women's volleyball sophomore Ella Piskorz was named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week this Monday.

"Ella continues to play some really good volleyball, and this past week was no exception," Pepperdine head coach Scott Wong said. "She scored a lot for us and commanded the net with 16 blocks over the weekend!"

This is the fourth weekly award of Piskorz's career. She and Tristen Raymond are the only Pepperdine players who have won multiple West Coast Conference weekly awards this season. All told, four different Waves have won five different weekly awards (Laine Briggs, Irelynd Lorenzen and Raymond are the others). Pepperdine and San Diego are the only teams with three different players named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Piskorz is coming off one of her most productive weeks of the season. She led Pepperdine with 16 total blocks in two matches, averaging 1.78 blocks per set. On national television last Thursday, Piskorz led Pepperdine with six blocks while chipping in 14 kills in the Waves' five-set win over LMU. Two days later against San Francisco, she recorded her first career double-double by tying her career highs of 15 kills and 10 blocks in the win over San Francisco.

As it stands, Piskorz leads the West Coast Conference in total blocks (111), block assists (96) and blocks per set (1.35). She is currently the only player in the league to surpass 100 total blocks. Additionally, her 1.35 blocks per set ranks No. 29 in the NCAA and her 111 total blocks rank No. 26.

Piskorz and the Waves head to the Inland Northwest for the final out-of-state road trip of the regular season, starting with a Thursday night match at Gonzaga. All schedule updates can be found on the women's volleyball team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.
