INDIANAPOLIS — The Pepperdine University Athletics Department has posted an NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95% for the third straight year, announced today by the NCAA.
The GSR measures how many student-athletes in the cohort classes 2015 through 2018 graduated within six years of their enrollment. It is considered the most comprehensive calculation of NCAA student-athlete academic success.
The Waves continue to rank well above the national Division I average of 90%. This marks the eighth consecutive year in which Pepperdine's GSR was above 90%.
In the West Coast Conference, Pepperdine was one of three schools to log a 95% or greater GSR, ranking third in the conference.
Among the 26 California Division I institutions, Pepperdine ranked fourth and were one of four schools above 95%.
The following programs for the Waves achieved a 100% GSR in this cohort:
- Women's basketball
- Beach volleyball
- Men's cross country/track
- Women's cross country/track
- Men's golf
- Women's golf
- Soccer
- Swimming & Diving
- Women's tennis
- Water polo
In addition, Baseball's 93% GSR in today's release is the program's highest mark across the past eight reports.
The GSR was developed by the NCAA with the entering freshmen class of 1995 to more accurately assess student-athlete's academic performance. The rate holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the fed survey. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport. Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution's GSR cohort.
The overall student-athlete GSR in the NCAA has increased from 74% to 90% since 2002.
