Women's Volleyball Sweeps Washington State at Home

MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine women's volleyball (9-7, 3-2 WCC) earned a 3-0 sweep at home over Washington State (11-5, 5-1 WCC) to snap the Cougars six-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon.

The Waves picked up a narrow 27-25 win in the first set, before collecting 25-13 and 25-14 wins in the latter sets.

Chloe Pravednikov led the Waves with 13 kills on the day while Ella Piskorz was strong up front with six kills and four solo blocks.

Pepperdine's block and defense held the Cougars to just 21 kills on 108 attacks, as the Waves totaled 42 kills on 88 attempts.

"It was great to see us start aggressive and stay aggressive throughout the entire match," said head coach Scott Wong. "Our offense was pretty smooth and efficient while our block and defense made some nice strides."

The Waves got out to a hot start in the first set with an early 4-0 lead, before the Cougars found their footing and brought it back tied at 6-6. The first set went back and forth with seven ties and four lead changes, as the Cougars eventually held a set-point advantage at 25-24.

The Waves responded for three straight points to close out the set, with a pair of Pravednikov kills bookending a Piskorz block to secure the 27-25 victory for the home side. Pepperdine had a balanced attack early with Pravednikov, Vanessa Polk and Maggie Beauer each logging four-plus kills early on.

Pepperdine led set two from the jump, having leads of 8-3 and 17-8 on the way to a 25-13 triumph. The Waves had eight blocks in the set while Washington State put up just two against the Pepperdine attack.

The third and final set saw more of the same, as the Waves immediately jumped out to a 4-0 lead with Tristen Raymond serving and adding a service ace to her ledger. After holding an 18-14 lead, the Waves ended the game on a 7-0 run to ensure the straight sets victory. Piskorz was at her best as the game closed, being responsible for the final four points of the game as the Cougars had no answer for the sophomore middle blocker.

The loss marked the first in conference play for Washington State, who entered play 5-0 in West Coast Conference affairs.
